The International Skating Union (ISU) has decided to transfer the European Figure Skating Championships in 2023 from Helsinki to Espoo. The Finnish metropolis was to be competed in the Helsinki Halli arena, whose majority owners are three Russian oligarchs who are on the European Union’s sanctions list due to the invasion of Ukraine.
Helsinki Halli, formerly known as Hartwall Arena, now owned by Gennady Timchenko and Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, was originally scheduled to host the May World Hockey Championships. However, due to the situation, the IIHF decided to move Basic Group A to a smaller Ice Hall, and the B-team will play in Tampere with the Czech team.
The European Figure Skating Championships will take place next year in Espoo from 25 to 28 January.
