The Slovak representative and defender of the big globe Petra Vlhová did not start, she will focus on two giant slalom competitions in another French resort, Courchevel (December 21 and 22).
The winner of Saturday’s downhill, Goggio, was one of the biggest favorites a day later and set off on the track with start number 5. In the introductory more technical passage, she was slower than most of her opponents, but in the lower passage she chose a more straight track. She used her riding skills especially between the third and last fourth split time, where she developed a decisive lead.
She has triumphed in the fifth speed competition this season, with three downhill victories and two in the super-giant slalom. In total, she achieved the sixteenth championship in the World Championships. She strengthened her lead in the overall standings of the prestigious series, with a 65-point lead over American Mikaela Shiffrin, who finished fifth (+0.75 s).
“Today was a different challenge, I always have to confirm the role of the favorite in the downhill, I don’t consider myself the strongest racer in the super-G. I think more about it in the downhill. I woke up in the morning and I already felt very confident.” said 29-year-old Goggio on Eurosport.
The Italians did well on Sunday and for a while they also aimed to control the complete stage. Curtoni was only a hundredth ahead of compatriot Federico Brignone (+0.52 s). At first, Shiffrin’s aspiration for wedging between the three was the first part of her, but she gradually lost in the lower part and joined the Italians.
However, Mowinckel succeeded, although Norka with number 19 did not endanger Goggio, but she managed to push at least Curtoni and Brignone to third, resp. fourth place.
