For years, tourists have photographed themselves on the famous Dachshund in the Dukiet Park in Krynica-Zdrój. A photo of children sitting on a dog would probably be found in many family albums. Five years ago, in unexplained circumstances, the dachshund disappeared. Although he still hasn’t been found, the replica of the dog has returned to its place. The dog is again the spa’s attraction.
The dachshund disappeared five years ago. It was then that the renovation of the Dukiet Park took place in the spa. As Daniel Lisak from the Krynica Tourist Organization admitted in an interview with “Gazeta Krakowska”, the dog has always been inscribed in the landscape of the Krynica promenade.
– All children, all parents and grandparents had at least one picture at this monument. This was probably the main photographic point – he said.
Piotr Ryba, the mayor of Krynica-Zdrój, also does not know the answer to the question of what happened to the Dachshund. – The symbol of the spa was lost during the previous terms of office – he emphasizes. There were speculations that it might have been stolen or damaged during renovation works, but this could not be proved.
Signals that he was missing reached many people – including the mayor of the health resort. Many looked at the commemorative photographs with sentiment and wondered what happened to the dog. In order to return the attraction to residents and tourists, the mayor decided to organize … a new dachshund.
But it wasn’t that simple. The area is entered in the register of monuments, and any work in this area must be approved by the conservator. After several months of efforts, we finally managed to obtain such consent, and then the works were reported to the District Office in Nowy Sącz.
– In December, we completed the full administrative and construction procedure allowing for the placement of the dog’s statue in the place it occupied before the renovation. Since earthworks are excluded in the winter, we have planned them in the spring – informed Piotr Ryba, the mayor of the health resort.
And we did it. When the severe frosts subsided, the dachshund monument returned to the spa. The replica is identical and is located in the same place as it used to be. – The children’s favorite has returned to the Dukiet Park. For now, we have to wait until the glue binds well, but next week it will be available to everyone – informed the mayor of the health resort.
I’m sure everyone who asked for the figurine will be pleased. There were also opinions in the comments that the replica is so similar that it’s hard to say if it’s not an old dachshund. The mayor assures that it is a new figurine and does not conceal his satisfaction that it will again be an attraction of the spa.
