/ world today news/ On July 27, after a short illness, the famous Bulgarian conductor Stefan Linev died at the age of 56.
He was born in Sofia. He graduated from the Lyubomir Pipkov High School of Music with a major in violin, as well as from the Music Academy – Sofia, majoring in “Orchestral and Choral Conducting” under Vladi Simeonov and Vasil Arnaudov. Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra – Sliven. In 1988, he started working as a conductor at the Varna Opera, then he was the chief conductor of the Varna Philharmonic, where he produced the Philharmonic’s first CD. Fulbright scholar at Yale University in Connecticut, chief conductor of the Ruse Opera. After 1996, he settled permanently in the USA. Since 2004, he has been working as the music director of the Young Soloists of New York Chamber Orchestra, and in 2006 he made his debut with the orchestra at “Carnegie Hall”, New York. In 2013 – 2014, he was the chief conductor of the State Opera-Stara Zagora. There he realized for the first time in Bulgaria the opera “King for a Day” by G. Verdi. Conductor of many concerts and international festivals, his repertoire includes over 20 operas by G. Verdi, G. Puccini, G. Donizetti, etc.; all symphonies of L. Van Beethoven and J. Brahms;
The pilgrimage to the mortal remains of Maestro Stefan Linev will be on July 31, at 12 o’clock in the Church of Saint Sophia. Tribute to his memory.
