After the entertaining and candid biography triptych Arnold by Arnold Schwarzenegger, his rival Sylvester Stallone could of course not lag behind with a personal outpouring on a streaming service.
Sly opted for a reality series under the title The Family Stallone. The aim: mainly to provide an insight into his family, which, in addition to his second wife Jennifer Flavin, consists of his three adult daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet, who still live at home in the parental villa in Los Angeles.
Anyone hoping for an in-depth look into Stallone’s soul is wasting their time with this series. It’s all sweet, tacky and shockingly superficial what the series has to offer. Stallone muses at the beginning that he longs to spend more time with his loved ones after six months of filming on location for the worthwhile crime series The Tulsa King. But it soon turns out that the three daughters steal the show from their father, who appears to have a weak sense of humor.
Most of the screen time is taken up by Scarlet, Sophia and Sistine sulking about their father who scared their friends with his overly protective behavior. Even now he shows no interest at all in his possible sons-in-law. When he receives a cake from his daughters with baby dolls on his 76th birthday, Sly does not realize that he is becoming a grandfather. His reaction is poorly played bewilderment.
Stallone fades into the background
In the other episodes, Stallone increasingly fades into the background. There is a brief meeting with his best friend Al Pacino, a look at brother Frank’s apartment, but the women in the Stallone house dominate the series with their chatter.
Film buffs will not be much wiser about the former action hero. In this regard, Schwarzenegger was much more candid about the ups and downs in his life. Despite their luxury, which is widely visible, this is mainly an introduction to a very boring family.
