“Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper Coolio died on September 28, just before going to Norway. Now his ashes will be distributed to those closest to him.
TMZ he writes that the cremation has taken place and that the seven sons of Coolio are now making necklaces with their father’s ashes inside.
A spokesperson for the late artist confirms to the website that each of the children will receive a pendant with ashes and a chain. Children will be able to choose the inscription for the jewels themselves.
Some other close relatives will also receive a specially made necklace, the spokesperson says.
The rest of the ashes are placed in an urn.
Coolio, whose original name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was 59 years old. He died suddenly in his hometown of Los Angeles.
The veteran of rap was among the artists who would perform at the Telenor Arena in Bærum with the concert “We Love The 90s” on October 21st.
“Last night we received the sad news that Coolio sadly passed away, aged only 59. Our thoughts now go out to family and loved ones», The Norwegian organizers have signed Facebook.
Vanilla Ice (54), who performed with Coolio until recently, explained TMZ that family was very important to Coolio and he loved the role of father.
No cause of death has been provided, but manager Jarez Posey has hinted to the press that he could had a heart attack.
Los Angeles firefighters in Los Angeles confirmed that they answered the call and worked for about 45 minutes trying to revive the star.
The artist was active until the end. Four days before he died, Coolio posted clips of footage of the concert on Instagram.
The hip-hop legend, who has visited Norway several times, had a big hit with the song “Gangsta’s Paradise” in the 90s.
Coolio has sold over 17 million records worldwide and has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify.
He was also guest artist on Norwegian Erik og Kriss’s song “Hva er det du venter på” in 2008.
