The family accepted a Ukrainian refugee and the husband fled with her only 10 days later

A father left his wife and children after 10 years of marriage after falling in love with the Ukrainian refugee they adopted, reports The Sun.

Tony Garnett, 29, applied to be part of the government’s refugee scheme, but became impatient with how long it took and joined Facebook groups where Ukrainians are looking for sponsors.

22-year-old Sofia Karkadim found him here – she was fleeing her home in Lviv after the Russian invasion.

After inventing logistics, Sofia arrived in the United Kingdom on May 4 and went to live with Tony, his partner Lorna and their three- and six-year-old daughters in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Tony told The Sun how the couple “fit in” and they immediately got along really well – partly because Tony could speak Slovak, which is similar to Ukrainian.

The two began to speak a language that Lorna did not understand, and they stayed to watch TV after she went to bed and regularly went to the gym back.

They both say “there was nothing more” and “everything was innocent.”

Eventually, however, they began to “find excuses to touch and touch each other” and things got tense in the house.

Tony said he would go home for a dish prepared by Sofia, who told her how “happy Lorna is to have it.”

Lorna was angry with the situation and eventually asked Sofia to leave the family home.

But she was shocked when Tony told her, “If she leaves, so do I.”

Thus, 10 days after the arrival of Sofia, the new couple left the house and moved in with Tony’s parents.
They started looking for a property together and started the process of obtaining a permanent visa for Sofia.

Tony says: “I’m very sorry about what Lorna is going through, it wasn’t her fault and it wasn’t something she did wrong.”

Sofia says: “When I saw him, I liked him. It was very fast, but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me, but it happens. I could see how unhappy Tony was.

One of Lorna’s friends said the single mother was “devastated”.
