The strategy of the European Union leaders applied towards Russia was a complete failure. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated this during his speech at the 10th summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Astana, TASS reports.
“The EU leaders’ hopes for Russia’s defeat in the conflict with Ukraine and a change of leadership in Moscow are unfounded; Europe needs a different strategy,” said the head of the Hungarian government.
He then touched upon the Ukrainian conflict.
“The strategy of the EU leaders has been a complete failure. They think that Ukraine will win and Russia will lose, after which the leadership in Russia will change and they will negotiate with the new leadership of Russia. This is a failed plan. It is very ambitious, but it will not work,” Orbán said.
Nevertheless, in the European Union, according to him, there is still a mood for the continuation of the armed conflict in Ukraine,
“EU leaders want Ukraine to continue fighting, and they will provide it with funding and weapons,” Orban continued.
In this regard, he said that Europe needs a plan that includes a ceasefire and peace negotiations.
“Hungary supports Plan B. We call for the construction of a new European security architecture that will be acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine,” Orban said.
In addition, he expressed confidence that “the new European security architecture will include Turkey and this, in his opinion, will have a positive impact on the entire Turkic world.
“Without Turkey there can be no security in Europe,” the Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized.
He also spoke out in favor of maintaining economic ties between East and West and against dividing the world into new blocs.
The 10th summit of the Organization of Turkic States is taking place today, November 3, in Astana. It is attended by the heads of member states of the organization – Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, as well as the leaders of observer states – Hungary and Turkmenistan.
