The FACC recommends that the City Councils suspend the plenary sessions until the last week of March | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

The Asturian Federation of Councils (FAC) will recommend to the Asturian City Councils suspend the municipal plenary sessions up to last week of March, in addition to lower social activities and avoid celebrations that represent crowds of people to try to avoid the spread of the coronavirus. It has been announced by its president and mayor of El Franco, Cecilia Pérez, after a meeting at the Presidency headquarters between the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón, and in which the mayors of Gijón, Ana González, and Avilés, Mariví Monteserín, and the mayors of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli, and Siero also participated , Ángel García, to address preventive measures against the new coronavirus.


It’s about the first working meeting of large municipalities with the Principality and the FAC and where it has been agreed that the federation will make a series of recommendations to all councils. These include the suspension of municipal plenary sessions until the last week of March or avoiding events and activities with a significant concentration of people “always respecting municipal autonomy”, indicated Pérez, who recalled that a small municipality does not have to take the same measures as a large one.

Similarly, it cleaning measures will be extreme and teleworking will be facilitated, in addition to will avoid municipal meetings as an “exemplary” measure before the citizens. They are measures that seek to avoid large social events while maintaining public services. Many are already being taken and initially have a scope of 14 days. After that date there will be a new meeting like the one held this Wednesday to analyze the situation. On the other hand, regarding schools from 0 to 3 the line marked by the Principality will be followed and activity will be maintained.
