While US President Joe Biden has condemned Russian annexations in southern and eastern Ukraine, the Russian Federation consulate in New York has also been the subject of American anger. Red graffiti was then drawn on its facade on Friday.
The facade of the Russian consulate in New York was vandalized with red paint, police said Friday, in what appears to be a protest gesture as Russia annexed four Ukrainian regions.
No arrest
At noon on a Friday, large blobs and streaks of red paint covered several feet in height and width of the facade of the Consulate, a Renaissance-style building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, an AFP photographer noted. The entrance gate was also covered in red paint.
Police were notified around 1:30 am, a New York police spokesman said. “There have been no arrests and investigations are ongoing”, the official added, adding that the incident was considered “probably motivated by hostility”.
