The Fable of the Squirrel Who Wasn’t Easily Fooled by the Wolves
TRIBUNJATENG.COM – Once upon a time, there was a smart squirrel named Upa. While he was eating walnuts, a hungry wolf came. These wolves like to eat squirrels near their nests. So he began to persuade Upa the squirrel.
“Wow, you’re really good at peeling walnut shells. But, I know a very great squirrel. He can peel walnuts with one leg raised,” said the Wolf.
“Me too,” said Upa the squirrel, lifting one leg.
The wolf came closer to Upa and said, “I also know a squirrel that can peel a walnut while lifting one leg and closing its eyes…”
“Oh, that’s easy! I also could!” Upa said while closing his eyes.

The wolf immediately approached and held Upa squirrel’s hand.
“Ha ha ha… now you will be my meal!” cried the Wolf.
Upa remained calm and said, “Wolves, I know, you want to eat me. You should thank and salute me first, before eating me!”
“Alright, I’ll thank you,” replied the Wolf, clasping his hands together and saluting.
At that moment, Upa squirrel immediately jumped up into the tree. Wolves are upset not playing. But he didn’t want to give up. The wolf made sense. He picked up a broad leaf and pretended to read it.
“Hey, Squirrel! This is a letter from the King of the Jungle. Honey, I don’t understand the meaning. Please read it to me, okay…” said the Wolf.
“Of course I want to help you,” said Upa. “But another time, okay? You see, from the top of this tree, I saw a wolf hunter coming!” cried Upa in a loud voice and pretended to be panicked.
Immediately, the wolf ran away from that place. The intelligent squirrel squirrel laughed amusedly. He came down from the tree, gathered the walnuts, then ran into the nest.
