A Formula One team raises serious questions when a specialist commentator immediately sees what the right tactics would be, but the stable strategists don’t. That’s exactly what happened to Ferrari in Monaco.

It follows that Leclerc, who was ahead of Sainz until his wheel change at the end of lap 18, would almost certainly have stayed in the lead if he hadn’t stood out for intermediate rain tires, but also switched to dry track tires a little later. However, Ferrari challenged him for interest, handing over the cut to Perez on a tray.
