It follows that Leclerc, who was ahead of Sainz until his wheel change at the end of lap 18, would almost certainly have stayed in the lead if he hadn’t stood out for intermediate rain tires, but also switched to dry track tires a little later. However, Ferrari challenged him for interest, handing over the cut to Perez on a tray.
