Central Norway in particular has been hit hard by the storm. According to NVE, Thursday will be the day where Gyda will be at its most intense:
– Gyda is still active, and we expect that Thursday is the day that has the greatest probability of incidents, says Brigt Samdal, director of the landslide and watercourse department, in a press release.
Traffic in large parts of the country will be affected on Thursday morning by the extreme weather Gyda. Among other things, the E6 is closed over Saltfjellet in Nordland. See which stretches of road are closed at the bottom of the case!
– The water flow will continue to rise and it is expected that the peak can be reached late Thursday or early Friday morning, says Samdal in NVE. This will depend on both precipitation and temperature development, he explains.
There has been a landslide at or in a construction site at Sjøholt in Ålesund municipality. No people were injured. 16 houses have been evacuated here pending geological surveys.
– There are 16 homes that have been evacuated. We do not have a complete overview of how many have been evacuated, but everyone is out of the houses, says operations manager Sindre Molnes to VG.
The homes will be evacuated until daylight comes on again, then a new assessment will be made, says Molnes. No damage to houses has been reported so far.
According to the fire service, there is an imminent danger that more mass could erupt. The municipality has organized temporary housing for the evacuees. A geologist will examine the area during the day on Thursday.
In Sunndal, an ice plug in the river Driva has led to the evacuation of two residential houses. The ice plug occurred before Christmas.
