Scientists have identified a link between the appearance of wine and the end of the age of dinosaurs
Of course, dinosaurs didn’t die of hangovers and they didn’t drink wine at all, because it was simply impossible to do at that time. However, a new scientific study has established a strange connection that is not obvious at first glance: as the dinosaurs disappeared came the appearance of grapes, and, therefore, made the creation of wine possible.

The study is based on a recent discovery that scientists believe is at least 60 million years old. A prehistoric grape seed fossil was discovered in Colombia in 2022 by Chicago paleobotanist Fabiani Herrera. This is the oldest grape seed found and a very rare artifact, as such fruits are rarely fossilized.
Such an important age of the seed indicates that grapes appeared in South America shortly after the dinosaurs disappeared after a large meteorite fell to Earth.
If you thought that the disappearance of dinosaurs and the appearance of grapes immediately after it was a coincidence, scientists are sure that these events are directly connected. The extinction of large dinosaur populations had an effect that explains the appearance of grapes.
On the one hand, the meteorite destroyed not only animals. It destroyed the forest, changed the composition of the soil and gave rise to plant species that were able to adapt to new conditions, including grapes.
On the other hand, after the disappearance of the large dinosaurs, which ate a lot of vegetation and cleaned the area, suitable conditions for grapes appeared. It could grow over large areas using other plants as support.
If dinosaurs had not gone extinct, it is likely that humans would not have been able to drink wine. It could also mean that humans had to conquer dinosaurs, but that’s another story.
