Our Sun’s influence on objects in our solar system extends far beyond our eight planets, with Neptune being the furthest. Yet our solar system is smaller than other systems.
Astronomers measure distant objects using the term AU (astronomical units), where 1 AU is the average distance between the Sun and Earth (about 149,597,871 kilometers).
Neptune is about 30 AU from the Sun, and the dwarf planet Pluto is about 39 AU. Pluto is located in the so-called Kuiper Belt, where the possible Planet Nine could also be hiding among other objects.
