The first so-called midseason finale of Thuis – we are already 2.5 months away from the usual season finale – was good for a double episode full of suspense and surprises. For example, Simonneke (Marleen Merckx) proposed to Frank (Pol Goossen) to involve Rosa (Annick Segal) in their relationship and thus actually opt for a polyamorous relationship. The package of drugs that was hidden in Vita had also been tampered with, and that really upset Robin (Frits De Ruyter). He was again severely attacked by Gregory’s gang.
But the episode was mainly focused on Bob Sleeckx (Christophe Haddad), who had announced that he had cancer again. Since then he has been preparing his farewell, including a last boat trip with his son Leo. Filming for these scenes took place last December in the Antwerp marina on the Left Bank.
It became clear to the viewers of Thuis on Thursday that things were starting to get too hot for the fraudulent Bob. During his ‘coffee table’, Christine (Daphne Paelinck) came up with images of his medical file. Although he had stated to everyone that the cancer had returned and could not be cured, the truth was different. What Christine had been saying for weeks but could not substantiate was correct.
Professional secrecy
A deeply affected doctor Judith (Katrien De Ruysscher) then decided to take a look at Bob’s medical file. Something she was absolutely not allowed to do, and which quickly came to light in the hospital. Although the file stated that Bob was “in complete remission” and therefore not ill, the consequences for Judith were serious. She confronted Bob with her findings, but he had long since contacted Karin (Kader Gürbüz) for another dirty game. Judith can expect a lawsuit for violation of professional secrecy.
Bob then stepped up a gear in his diabolical plan. His final confrontation with Christine almost ended in her death. Bob strangled his ex, but he barely managed to survive and call the emergency services.
During his flight he took his son Leo and Polly, Lowie’s daughter, with him. When Tamara (Tine Priem) noticed that Leo had been picked up from school, she raised the alarm. Together with Lowie (Mathias Vergels) she rushes to the marina to prevent Bob from sailing with the children.
Too late
However, they arrived too late. Lowie and Tamara saw the boat sailing out of the harbor, with one person on deck. They assumed it was Bob, but the viewer knows it was Maureen (Tania Poppe) who had a hood over her head.
While Tamara and Lowie watched helplessly as the boat sailed away with the two little ones on board, the vessel exploded before their eyes.
Then the image went black for a moment. The tragedy seemed great: three deaths, including two children. No one can survive an explosion like that, right? But an extra scene followed, which gave away a major surprise. It turned out that Bob, Polly and Leo were not on the exploded boat at all, they were hiding in a cage elsewhere in the marina. So they are still very much alive. Isn’t it the end of the story for Bob after all? What else does he have in store? The future will tell.
