The chef, born in the province of Varese, is a son of art, in fact, the family managed the starred restaurant La Cincianella for years on Lake Comabbio. «It was around 23.40, I was in the kitchen and I was finishing the service with other colleagues, when, suddenly, a very loud bang was heard, like a bomb! A terrorist attack: that’s the first thing I thought. We all fell to the ground due to the violent shaking and, before the light went out, I even saw the shock wave from the explosion pass in front of me! They were terrifying moments: as soon as it got completely dark, part of the ceiling started to fall on us and we were sure that everything had collapsed.”
With these words a young assistant to chef Locatelli talks about theaccident occurred in 2014 at “Locanda Locatelli”. A strong explosion, probably due to a gas leak, shatters the silence of the London night causing over 500 displaced people and around fifteen people injured, 5 of whom were taken to hospital.

What happened after the Locanda Locatelli explosion
Following the explosion, the chef said he was devastated and, in some interviews, stated that he had even thought about ending his business. The place that he, together with his wife, had worked so hard for had been swept away in an instant.
Today, if Locanda Locatelli is still there in London, the restaurant where it is said that even the Queen loved to eat, is all thanks to his wife and daughter, Margherita, who inherited Giorgio’s passion. The girl, in addition to being vegan, seems to suffer from various food allergies, which pushed both her and her father to revisit cooking in a more inclusive way. The problem thus became a stimulus to do better and to expand its offering.
