The expected increase in bills has been officially quantified: 29.8% for electricity and 14.4% for gas

Wednesday the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (Arera) he communicated that in the last quarter of the year (October-December 2021) the electricity bill will increase by 29.8 percent and the gas bill by 14.4 percent the typical family. The increase in bills, which does not only concern Italy, was expected and it is mainly due to the increase in the prices of raw materials, such as gas and fuels deriving from oil, and to the increase in costs for companies that produce energy.

In Italy, the increase in bills was partly limited by a surgery of the government, which has allocated the necessary resources to cushion the impact of the increase in prices, lowering VAT and operating costs for natural gas users, eliminating the increase in electricity bills for the 3 million households beneficiaries of the “electric social bonus” (a discount on the bill for families who find themselves in conditions of economic or physical hardship), and eliminating the system charges in the bills of about 6 million micro-enterprises and about 29 million domestic customers with low voltage users and contracts up to 16.5kW.

Without government intervention, the increase would have been 45 percent on electricity bills and over 30 percent on gas.
