William Friedkin’s masterpiece “The Exorcist” (USA 1973; OT: “The Exorcist”) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To mark this occasion, Warner Home Video is releasing the great horror classic for the first time on Ultra HD Blu-ray in limited steelbook editions on November 9, 2023 (we reported). In addition, another sequel to the feature film, “The Exorcist: Confession” (USA 2023; OT: “The Exorcist: Believer”), has been showing in German cinemas for a few days. David Gordon Green, who has already breathed new life into the horror series around John Carpenter’s “Halloween – The Night of Horror” (USA 1978) with his own trilogy, is responsible for directing. “The Exorcist: Confession” will also be expanded into a trilogy with two sequels. For this purpose, Green was able to engage actress Ellen Burstyn from the original, among others. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is of course also exploiting the horror film produced by Blumhouse in the home cinema segment. According to new retailer information, the film will be released on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray in keep cases next year. Abroad, variants are also listed in limited 4K steelbooks. The exact release date as well as technical and content details are still unknown. Pre-ordering is already possible in German online stores.
