A return trip to Kinshasa and an immersion in the bubbling artistic life of the Congolese capital. This is what awaits you at the Angoulême Museum, with the exhibition “Congo painting”.
This highlights the diversity of artists and themes in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past 50 years. “They say that Kinshasa is certainly one of the most dynamic cities in Africa in terms of artistic creation., reports Emilie Salaberry, director of the Angoulême museums. It is a real open-air art workshop. ”
Among the themes addressed: the place of women in Kinshasa society, the migration issue, the pauperization of the African population, or even these politicians raised to power by the Western powers.

It is a facet of the mythical artist often unknown to the general public which is approached by the Comic Strip Museum, in Angoulême. First presented at the Musée national Picasso in Paris, this exhibition is the first devoted to the study of the links between the artist’s works and comics.
It must be said that Picasso was born when comics first appeared at the end of the 19th century. In another part, the exhibition deciphers Picasso’s influence on renowned authors in the world of comics, such as Art Spiegelman, Enki Bilal or Gotlib. “Picasso was able to be in the purest classicism, then to break all the codes including in the figuration, and to invent his own universe. This is what fascinates the artists of comics.”
To finish, at Chais Magelis : behind the scenes of the latest Wes Anderson, filmed in … Angoulême. As its name suggests, this exhibition allows visitors to discover the behind-the-scenes look of The French Dispatch, whose filming took place from November 2018 to March 2019 in the Charente capital.
Released on October 21, 2021, the film features a collection of stories taken from the latest issue of an American magazine, published in a fictional French town of the 20th century. After receiving the label of Cannes festival 2020, the film by the American director was screened in competition for the Palme d’or for the 2021 edition.
This exhibition tells the story of a real unsuspected adventure, between photos of the shooting, film sets, drawings, and animated sequences.
