The exhibition ‘Semana Santa en la memoria’ shows 60 images of the city’s brotherhoods between the 20s and the 80s of the 20th century in various public spaces in the center and in Triana

The Seville City Council, through the Delegation of Government and Major Festivities and the Institute of Culture and the Arts of Seville (ICAS) with the collaboration of the Council of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods of Seville, shows from today in various public spaces of the city the exhibition ‘Semana Santa en la memoria’, with 60 images of the city’s brotherhoods between the 20s and 80s of the 20th century. The exhibition, made up of 30 mupis with historical images belonging to the Archives, Newspaper and Publications Service (SAHP) of the City Council, is part of the program of activities and revitalization of Lent 2021 and can be seen until April 4 at the city streets.

These images are exhibited in the Plaza del Salvador, the area of the Encarnación and the Altozano from today and from next Tuesday also on the Avenida de la Constitución and show different brotherhoods or different scenes of Holy Week in the same locations in those that are found.

The exhibition, which is also sponsored by Syrsa, Helvetia and Quirón Salud, is distributed in these four spaces taking into account that these are significant enclaves for the passage of the brotherhoods during Holy Week and, therefore, there is a great number of images captured at these points in the Municipal Photo Library of Seville, most of which belong to the Serrano, Serafín, Cubiles, Gelán or Larrazábal collections, among others.

Thus, the exhibition shows in the Plaza del Salvador images of different brotherhoods and some pictures of children and women in mantilla that take place in this same enclave, undoubtedly one of the neuralgic points in the route of the brotherhoods.

In the Encarnación area, the exhibition offers an approach to this enclave as a point of passage for many brotherhoods on the way to the Official Race. In the images you can also see the many urban changes that have occurred throughout the twentieth century around the old market of the Incarnation.

The photographs exhibited in the Plaza del Altozano not only show images of the brotherhoods passing through this point, but also pictures of the passing through other areas of the Triana neighborhood of the five brotherhoods that had their headquarters on the other side
from the river.

Finally, the photographs that from Tuesday will also be seen on Avenida de la Constitución show a perspective of the brotherhoods passing through the Official Race, from Plaza de la Campana to Plaza Virgen de los Reyes, offering a closer look to the brotherhood universe as well as to the urban and human geography of these times in this area of the city.

The delegate of the Interior and Major Festivities, Juan Carlos Cabrera, has highlighted “the opportunity that this exhibition represents to enjoy in public spaces and in the same settings where historical and unique images of our Holy Week are developed in a year in which the memories are very present and always with the aim of keeping the traditions of our city alive ”.
