Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban previously confirmed his reluctance to continue supporting Ukraine. Same opinion as reports edition of The Economist, adheres to the leader of the Dutch Freedom Party Geert Wilders, who last week won the parliamentary elections in the country.
According to the source, Wilders may significantly reduce or completely reduce funding for Kyiv, as well as prevent Ukraine from joining the EU.
But the situation has gone even further – the media are reporting similar sentiments in Sweden.
“Scrooge-minded governments like the Dutch and Swedish lobbied against the extra money. Germany was also skeptical, and now it says its hands are tied,” the publication says.
The EU also cannot finally decide whether or not to allocate the additional 50 billion euros requested by the European Commission to help Kyiv.
“Not only is the Hungarian Euro-Grinch (Orban. – EADaily) is particularly grumpy, and he may soon have a new ally after Geert Wilders became the front-runner in the Dutch elections on November 22,” writes The Economist columnist.
The fate of the requested amount should now be decided on December 14-15, when the next EU summit will take place.
