Thalia has lived its life in the shadow of the clio, moreover, it never made it to Western Europe for its adrenalin driving characteristics or production quality. But beware, it hardly spoils today.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you say “cheap car”? Certainly, especially the younger generations will associate dacias with the way to get among road users as cheaply as possible. Even before the rise of the brand, there was another car that stole the hearts and wallets of many domestic motorists between 2001 and 2008.
However, Renault Thalia was created two years before it shocked Czech customers at the time with its low prices. He had to reach his dumping phase of life as well – after all, the price lists of the first models indicated an amount of up to 299,900 CZK for the basic Thalia, shaved even with the power steering. But as the model aged and the purchasing power of the Czechs grew, the car manufacturer dropped prices significantly. The price list from 2005, for example, reveals that the basic version of the Authentique was available from CZK 219,900 for the basic 1.4 (55 kW), but it really started to burn out after the modernization in 2006. The price list at that time starts at CZK 199,900 for the model without ABS and with the new basic unit 1.2 16V (55 kW), the following year saw a slight increase in price to 202,900 CZK.
Despite the time-warped memories of many motorists, the Thalia of the first generation has never been cheaper. The magic numbers attacking today’s bizarrely low amounts, for example CZK 139,900 from 2013, were only reached by its second generation. It already looked significantly more civil than the clio with a longer rear overhang, because it received the much-needed distinctive bodywork, which provided passengers in the back with more legroom and headroom.
