The electric version, it must be said, is far from cheap (prices start at 25,210 euros and reach 28,577 with the smart EQ fortwo cabrio), but the eco-bonuses can lend a big hand.

In December 1992 Nicolas Hayek, owner of the Swatch company, decided to contact the then CEO of Mercedes-Benz, Warner Niefer, promoting the project conceived by Johann Tomforde. The birth of the crash box allowed the launch of the first car, under the MCC brand (ie Micro Compact Car) of the Daimler star in October 1998. The car, framed around the Tridion protection cell, was just 2.5 meters long. As the generations progressed to the current EQ, the two-seater Smart increased in size. The range has also expanded with the first SUV.
For the time, the equipment was respectable with ABS, automatic gearbox, electric windows and climate control. Among the various options there was also electric power steering, metallic paint and a spare wheel. The engines, an aspirated 999 and a 900 Turbo, are of Renault origin. In fact, Twingo, Smart and Clio are made in the Slovenian Revoz plant in Novo Mesto.
Smart can rely on the technical know-how of the French. Not everyone knew the answer to our question. The numbers, after all, are positive and, with the 2035 deadline, we are certain that we will see more and more electric Smarts, even on our roads.
