The Evolution of Jennifer Lawrence: From Young Hollywood Star to Fearless Actress in ‘No Hard Feelings’

The development of Jennifer Lawrence, once the Oscar-winning young Hollywood star (The Hunger Games, Silver Linings), who at the age of 32 no longer fulfills many of the role clichés and also wants to reinvent himself after a baby break. The exceptional actress gets the opportunity in “No Hard Feelings”, a film by Gene Stupnitsky (The Office), which just in the first half refers to scandalized comedy hits of the 90s like Crazy for Mary squints.

Fearless of embarrassment, Lawrence throws himself into the role of hard-nosed but burnt-out Uber driver Maddie. In order to secure her impounded car and thus her livelihood, the young woman accepts an advertisement from a wealthy couple (Laura Benanti and Matthew Broderick with an idiosyncratic wig) to date their uptight 19-year-old son Percy. In return, a borrowed car beckons. The immoral offer (defloration included!) leads to adolescent gags, including twerk interludes, use of pepper spray and a daring nude appearance by Lawrence. Before the superficial game with differences in age and experience wears off, the film still gets the curve. Because soon the unequal couple realizes that they have much more in common than an arranged get-together: the trauma of poisoned family structures, the longing to live life without having to live up to expectations. And so the relationship between the outsiders also credibly changes from the cramped search for the best place for the first time to a deeper friendship, which culminates in a magical romantic dinner, where Percy unexpectedly hits the right emotional notes from Maddie on the piano.
