The beginnings of festival fashion can be traced back to the 70s – the era of hippies and the sexual revolution. The first and largest rock music festival in Woodstock gathered 500,000 people on 6 hectares of land in New York state.
Nearly 50 years later, hippie cultural attributes such as fringes, crowns, colorful sundresses and scarves are still frequently used in festival imagery.
However, interest in such characters is noticeably decreasing. If you look at foreign stars and analyze their images in the last couple of years, you will notice that their images have become much simpler. If earlier festival fashion was associated with very colorful outfits, now many celebrities come to festivals in black or simple T-shirts and jeans.
Could this be the start of a minimalist era in festival fashion?
But if minimalism is enough for you on a daily basis, then I recommend you look at other festival fashion trends.
Naturally, boho chic has never been canceled.
Denim shorts with a T-shirt, fringe and knit dresses are still in fashion. By the way, crochet is one of the hottest trends right now.
Another must-have for any festival is a cotton T-shirt. Choose a couple of sizes larger. Perfect with super short shorts or ripped jeans.
Mesh dress. This trend is definitely not for the faint of heart. But where else to go like that, if not to the festival!
Fringes, sequins, glitter. Another cool thing to wear to a festival. If you have any sparkly things left over from the new year, be sure to wear them to the festival.
Supermodel Kate Moss and actress Sienna Miller were very influential festival fashion designers. To this day, these styles are still very popular – a short dress or mini shorts and high boots.
“You can’t accessorize too much” is the motto of any festival: glasses, hats, scarves and bandanas, chains and bracelets, choose what you like and then boldly dress up from head to toe. Cowboy hats look especially cool with mini dresses, skirts or shorts. Very sexy!
If you’re up for experimenting, try dyeing your hair a bright color (disposable spray cans and dyes abound now).
Pink is everywhere now, and for good reason! In preparation for the release of the Barbie movie, the pink color trend has taken over the planet. It’s no surprise that Barbiecore, the official trend of summer 2023, has made its way from the screen to the catwalks, the streets and now, finally, the festivals. Pink, glitter and cowboy hats are the hottest trend right now.
