The annual rate of inflation in the euro zone – which includes 19 countries – slowed in December to about 9.2% from 10.1% in November, according to preliminary estimates by the European Union’s statistics office “Eurostat” released on Friday .
The inflation rate was much lower than a Reuters poll had predicted, at 9.7%.
Falling energy sector prices mainly contributed to the slowdown in inflation in December, which will be the second consecutive month of slowdown. Inflation was 10.6% in October.
