Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The European Commission, which is the executive branch of the European Union, has just announced its plans to make manufacturing mandatory smartphone and other electronic equipment use USB Type-C ports for charging purposes.
In this proposed proposal, the European Commission simply states the obligation to use port USB Type-C for wired charging devices, does not cover wireless charging.
Besides smartphone, this rule also covers some other devices, such as tablets, headphone, portable speaker, game consoles, and cameras. Manufacturers are also asked to make fast charging standards used, including information about the charging standards supported by their devices to consumers.
Later, consumers can also buy new devices that are not included charger inside it. Quoted from The Verge, Friday (9/24/2021), this regulation plan was made to reduce electronic waste by allowing consumers to use cables and wires charger that he already had on the new device.
This regulation plan is said to have a significant impact on Apple as an iPhone manufacturer. The reason, the iPhone is still using port lightning, while most producers smartphone others have used port Type-C for charging needs.
However, before becoming a regulation, this proposal must go through a voting process in the European Parliament. If it is actually implemented later, producers will be given 24 months to comply with this new rule.
