After a one-year break, the European Union has renewed the DiscoverEU program, which will allow EU citizens aged 18-20 to up to a month of unlimited train travel in the European Union. Interest in the past significantly exceeded supply. In total, the European Union plans to give away 60,000 tickets.
Possibility sign up for the program will break out at noon today, the deadline is October 26. The European Union launched this program in 2018 to support the exploration of Europe, last year it did not announce this offer due to a pandemic. Applicants born between July 1, 2001 and December 31, 2003 can participate. Compared to previous years, the offer has been expanded to include 20-year-olds and nineteen-year-olds, who did not have the opportunity to travel in this way last year. Those who succeed will be able to travel for up to 30 days in the period from March next year until February 2023. They will be able to book a place via a special mobile application.
The European Union pays 60,000 tickets in this way, each country has its own quota according to population. In the Czech Republic, 3697 young people applied for tickets at the last event, 1030 of them succeeded.
According to the European Union, the purpose of the program is to show young people Europe and to support their independence, at the same time to show them the possibilities of traveling by train. In the last year, two thirds of ticket users said they were traveling abroad for the first time.
The selection of candidates takes place in two rounds. It must first go through a “European quiz” that examines candidates’ knowledge of the EU, then further questions await successful candidates in the second round.
