The European Union opens its borders to 14 countries around the world – Agence Afrique

The Schengen area is open to 14 countries around the world, including 4 carefully selected Africans. From July 11, flights from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Rwanda will be authorized by European countries in the Schengen area.

In addition to these African countries, 10 others from the rest of the world include Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, New Zealand, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand and Uruguay. .

China is on a waiting list but under “condition of reciprocity”, we learn from a diplomatic source. Europe believes that it could welcome travelers to China on its soil only if China did the same, that is to say, to open its skies to EU aircraft. Travelers from Andorra, Monaco, the Vatican and San Marino are also accepted in the Schengen area.

Europe remains closed to Donald Trump’s America, which is currently the country most affected in the world by the Covid-19 pandemic, with more than 2.5 million cases, including more than 127,000 deaths.

This list was developed on the basis of “countries with a similar epidemiological situation with Europe”, said the European Commission which sets several epidemiological criteria for a country to be on the list of admitted, including a rate of new cases Covid-19 close to or below 16 per 100,000 population (EU average) in the past 14 days.

The first list of the 14 countries selected must be formalized in Council this Monday, June 29, 2020. The list will be revised once every two weeks, says the EU.
