The European Union is heading for a new crisis now that Hungary and Poland exercise their right of veto and block the European Union’s budget. The two countries find it unacceptable that in the future the receipt of European subsidies will be linked to respecting the rule of law.
If Poland and Hungary hold their ground, there will be no EU budget on 1 January. The Union will then have to rely on an emergency budget of about a third of the normal budget and the corona support package of EUR 750 billion will not be available at all.
Should the European Union re-enter talks with Poland and Hungary in an attempt to resolve it together? Or is the measure full and should the European Union stick to the rule of law test at all costs?
