In the last few weeks and months, there have been reports from many carmakers that in the near future they will gradually start developing and subsequently selling cars with internal combustion engines. The reason, however, was not their passion for zero emissions, but the fact that the manufacturers already knew what was going on. According to Bloomberg, the European Union has decided that from 2035 it will not be possible to buy any car on its territory other than an electric one. These plans are nothing new, but the date set by the new EU is already. It was originally talked about 2050.
The date 2035 is currently planned as the definitive end of new combustion cars in Europe, or from this date it will not be possible to buy any new car equipped with a combustion unit in European territory.
However, the operation of these cars will not be prohibited. Likewise, individual imports from countries outside the EU, where the sale of internal combustion engines in new cars will not be banned, should not be banned. Respectively, not so soon.
In addition to banning the sale of cars with internal combustion engines, the European Union is also calling on the Member States to work urgently on building the missing infrastructure, especially charging stations. Their massive construction should start no later than 2030, which is also the date from which carmakers will have to gradually reduce the emissions of their vehicles.
Until five years later, there is a complete shift to electromobility, because it is already clear that hybrids will not save this, according to the EU, carmakers should reduce their emissions by up to 65% from this date. Let us add that according to the latest data, cars in the European Union account for only 12% of CO2 emissions. The rest goes to industry or air or sea transport.
