Covid-19 continues to give no respite to the whole world, with the numbers of infections continuously rising in different continents. Despite the safety measures adopted by several countries, the summer has created a multiplication of positivity given the travel for holidays. Now the return of the winter season must put everyone to attention, to avoid reliving what happened in the first months of 2020. This was also confirmed by the World Health Organization, through the director general for Europe, Hans Kluge.

“It is a very serious situation that is taking place in the Old Continent. The new cases exceeded those reported when the pandemic first struck in March “.

The reopening of schools and the return to full capacity of offices and work activities they are a potential danger to be kept strictly under control. This is the warning that the largest health organization in the world has given to individual governments.

During an online briefing, which took place in the last few hours, WHO official Catherine Smallwood stressed that the numbers are increasing across Europe.

Over half of the countries have recorded increases of over 10% in the last two weeks and in seven countries the increase is more than double ”. These numbers, he reiterated, represent a “worrying trend” and “must be a wake-up call for everyone“.

In addition, regarding the quarantine and the possibility of shortening the 14 days of isolation currently envisaged, the invitation is clear.

“Our position remains for a 14-day quarantine, in the interest of patients.”

This goes against decisions made by some governments, like this one French, to reduce the time interval to just one week. Also in Italy it had been talked about but for now no considerations on the matter have been expressed.
