After conducting extensive research, the European Medicines Agency has included new side effects in Janssen and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines. Likewise, its Safety Committee has made it public, which establishes that, in the case of the first, there may be a vasculitis of small vessels with skin manifestations or, what is the same, an inflammation of the blood vessels that can lead to to a skin rash, with red or flat spots and even bruises. This side effect can occur due to bacterial or viral infections caused by the consumption of medications and the provision of vaccines and can be resolved over time if the care given to it is continuous and adequate.
To reach this conclusion, the Safety Committee of the European Medicines Agency has reviewed a total of 21 cases reported worldwide, of which 10 resulted in cutaneous vasculitis that manifested in at least one organ. Coincidentally, eight of those cases occurred after administration of the vaccine.
As published by the newspaper El Debate, another of the side effects that the European Medicines Agency warns about is capillary leakage. This phenomenon occurs, above all, with the Moderna vaccine and consists of the leakage of liquid from the small capillary blood vessels. Capillary leakage causes swelling of the arms and legs, sudden weight gain, a feeling of faintness, thickening of the blood, low levels of albumin (an important blood protein), and low blood pressure . If complications occur, this capillary leak syndrome can lead to blood cancers, inflammatory diseases and viral infections.
Regarding the last side effect mentioned, it should be noted that the Committee has disseminated this warning since some cases of exacerbation of capillary leak syndrome have been associated with the Moderna vaccine, while the cases reported after vaccination with Pfizer did not support this. association. In total, 55 reported cases of the same were reviewed, after 11 of them manifested after the administration of the Moderna vaccine and after 44 did so after the administration of the Pfizer vaccine.
