Despite the failure of the festival in 2020, Cannes promises to return to the big screens on the sunny French Riviera for the 74th time this summer. Although Cannes is a particularly exclusive event, which is not always an opportunity for every sinephile to attend, the European Film Challenge offers to become part of the festival, watching European cinema regularly and enthusiastically, writes Prombergs.
“Prestigious film festivals are mostly intended for a small circle of representatives of the film industry, which means that film fans who do not work in film-related professions rarely have the opportunity to attend them,” notes Greta Akcijonaite, the initiator of the European Film Challenge competition from Lithuania. “We want to give cinema lovers a unique opportunity and at the same time raise the profile of European cinema.”
To enter the competition, participants must watch ten European films on legal platforms by 17 May 2021 and each time after watching a film must be registered on europeanfilmchallenge.lv with an image showing where and how they have watched the film – at a cinema, festival, TV or online .
This week, viewers will have the opportunity to receive the first extra points for the films of female directors and the selection of François Trifo films. From Monday, March 15, you will be able to receive additional points by registering a selection of films from the Environmental Film Studio on the Kino Bize Home Cinema Platform. Follow more about additional points on the competition website and social portals.
Points will be awarded for each film and platform registered for the competition, and the participant with the highest number of points in the prize will receive a paid trip to the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place from 6 to 17 this year. in July.
In the event that Cannes decides to run only online or the winner is unable to reach the festival site due to pandemic restrictions, the winner will receive an equivalent competition prize.
