The European Commission intervenes in the energy market: what can it produce? And will we feel it too?

According to the Commission’s calculations, this measure could reduce gas consumption in winter by 1.2 billion cubic meters. The link between lower electricity demand and lower gas consumption is not so strange, because many power plants are gas-powered. If demand falls to that extent, it should (in theory) also dampen extreme prices, is the reasoning. Aside from that, anything you don’t use still means cost savings.
