The European Commission has approved the extension extending the use of glyphosate until December 2023, according to Asaja. The organization, while appreciating that the fact that the use of this substance has been permitted throughout 2023 is “a respite” in the short term, continues to denounce – as it did at the doors of the European Commission’s office in Madrid the last November 23 – that this does not cease to be “a park”.
And it is that it does not allow proposals of more than one year to professionals, so it is useless in order to form a minimum of strategy on the best techniques that will be applied by farmers on their farms.
Asaja insists that the Strategic plans of the new CAP include, as in the Spanish case, conservation techniques with “theoretical” environmental benefits of carbon dioxide capture or soil protection and improvement of the efficiency of the use of nitrogenous fertilisation, which requires at least commitments from farmers until 2027 and why it is impossible to deal with them without the use of glyphosate.
The takeover bid requires definitive approval for a period of at least 5-10 years in order to ensure peace of mind for farmers, especially those who opt for agriculture of conservation and no manpower.
