– The speed at which everything is moving is taking its toll. One could complain a bit that we could have our media duties skipped today so that the players could have time to rest. However, this applies to every team, so like it or not you have to give in to such things. Every long tournament is difficult, and this one is exceptionally long, the championship has been extended significantly – commented Mariusz Szyszko, press spokesman of the Polish Volleyball Association, in an interview with Interia.
– I don’t think this is the perfect moment to go back to the past and reflect on what you remember – the team captain began, then made the questioner a little more satisfied and “risked” the anger of the members of that team. – It was a great tournament for us. Some of my colleagues will be angry with me for what I say, but it was much easier for us back then. We didn’t start as a huge favorite, but as a dark horse. And now almost everyone expects us to win

Coach Gheorghe Cretu admitted that of course he knows a lot about the Polish team, but he certainly does not draw too far conclusions from the recent memorial of Hubert Wagner in Krakow. The coach, who worked for ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle before taking over the national team, is aware that now the Polish team will certainly be different, and implicitly better.
– No, the result of that match does not make me more confident now. We fought many matches, and recently the Poles defeated us in the Nations League. We’ll see who will play better this time in the highest level of volleyball – replied Tine Urnaut.
Coach Nikola Grbic, as is his custom, again answered at length. First of all, he liked Kurek’s answer that in such a place and time, when the stakes are high, he does not want to go back to what happened so long ago. And he also pointed out what we’ve written about recently, that this excellent team he leads comes with its own set of challenges. – It’s both hard and great that I have such a long bench of players. I try to provide each of the boys with a rhythm of playing, but on the other hand it is obvious that not all of them will get the same amount of time on the dance floor. As a result, highly successful players remain on the bench and wait until they get a chance. I always expect everyone to be ready to come in and give a lot of quality, and when choosing the squad I take into account who we are going to play against – said the coach.
Grbic assured that despite the difficulties of the tournament, the team would be ready to play hard until the last day of the competition. – But now we are fully focused on Slovenia – he emphasized.
