The governor of the Bank of France and member of the ECB board, Francois Villeroy de Galhau, believes that the European Central Bank has concluded its bullish cycle. “Today I think there is no reason for a further rate hike,” he said in an interview with Handelsblatt. “There’s a lot of debate about peaking rates: instead we should be talking about a plateau and we’ll stay on this plateau as long as it takes.” Villeroy underlined that after the latest ECB tightening, “good” inflation numbers were seen while the increase in long-term financing costs was “excessive”.
