Already on November 22, the leadership of the European Car of the Year electorate published the list of candidates for 2023. These are the automotive innovations that met all the requirements for inclusion in 2023. This year they were only 27.
In the first round of the election, each of the 61 jurors from 23 European countries anonymously marked seven of their favourites. This year the method of the second round of elections has changed. The finalists will be tested and compared by the judges for the last time not until the end of February, but already in mid-January, on the Belgian track Circuit de Mettet, before it was on the CERAM circuit in Mortefontaine, France.
The winner will then be announced no earlier than March, but already on January 13th, so the winner can be proud of his renowned “COTY 2023” title for practically the whole year. The ceremonial announcement will take place before the start of the Brussels Motor Show, whereas it has been made at the Geneva Motor Show for the past decade.
The Car of the Year expert poll has been held continuously since 1963 and is completely independent. The jury currently consists of 61 members from 23 countries, mainly from Western and Central Europe. The Czech Republic has had a representative in the survey since 1993, still editor-in-chief of Automobil magazine. Until 2000 it was Milan Jozíf, until 2015 Tomáš Hyan, and since 2016 Jiří Duchoň has been elected.
The world car of 2022 is the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It dominated three categories
