The “Euro” exhibition is visiting Sofia –

The traveling exhibition, visited by over 100,000 people from all over Europe, can be seen at BNB until November 20

The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) hosted a traveling exhibition dedicated to the single European currency. The exposition can be viewed in the Money Salon until November 20 – every working day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on weekends the doors will be open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Although the euro is talked about every day, people are still not familiar with its features. The purpose of the exhibition “The Euro”, organized for the first time in Bulgaria by the European Central Bank and the BNB, is to encourage people to look at the single European currency in a new way.

The exhibition at 1 “Knyaz Alexander I” square is intended for all citizens, entrance is free. It is aimed in particular at the so-called European generation – children between the ages of 8 and 12. The exposition was visited by over 100,000 people from all over Europe – from Tallinn to Rome, Berlin and Paris. Sofia is the next capital to host the exhibition.

Organized in the form of games and interactive presentations, the exhibition invites visitors to learn more about the euro in 5 thematic areas: banknotes, coins, security features, the history of money and a children’s corner. The exhibition includes video games, films and unique exhibits related to the production of money, such as a hologram of the €50 banknote reproduced in giant size. Three video games allow visitors to immerse themselves in the magical world of 7 banknotes (from 5 to 500 euros), test their knowledge of Europe by matching the national symbols on the euro coins with the respective countries that issue them, or learn about the protective elements joining a “torn” banknote. With the help of interactive means, the curious will learn how to recognize the security features so that they can easily check whether a banknote is genuine. Free handouts describing the security features will be distributed.

Young visitors to the exhibition can follow the story of a police investigation written by children from over 10 European countries. With the help of the interactive boards, adults will have the chance to compare real and fake banknotes or recognize which countries of the Eurozone the coins are from. They can also attempt to lift a weight equal to that of a gold bar.
