The rivers, like certain groundwater in the department, are thus in a fragile situation, all the more so in the Chartres conurbation.
Under these conditions and after consulting the Chamber of Agriculture and Chartres Métropole, the prefect has decided to take water restriction measures which will come into force from Friday July 15 and must make it possible to preserve the resource, both in quantity and in quality.
With regard to farmers, the prefect of Eure-et-Loir salutes the effort they have been making since the beginning of June, in particular the fifty-nine of them who have agreed to reduce by 10% l irrigation of their crops. In order to reduce the pressure exerted on the rivers, it is now planned to increase this effort to 30%.
Drought: there will be nothing to draw from groundwater this summer
Measures are also planned for communities and individuals. The watering of lawns and sports grounds is thus prohibited in all municipalities placed on heightened alert or in a crisis situation; in the alert zone, watering is also prohibited between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The filling of swimming pools is also prohibited. As for the cleaning of vehicles, it remains authorized in centers dedicated to this purpose only.
A call to civic
Beyond these restrictive measures, notes the prefecture, “citizens’ attention is drawn to the need to show good citizenship in order to limit the use of water to a minimum, in particular in the municipalities belonging to the community. of Chartres conurbation”.
The effectiveness of these measures will be reviewed one week after their entry into force, on Friday July 22.
