The #EU recovery plan is a chance for sustainable and fair development at both national and regional levels – 2024-04-16 01:14:36

/View.info/ The #EU recovery plan is a chance for sustainable and fair development both at the national and regional level. It provides a new perspective for local economies, so that we don’t just get back to where we were before the crisis, but give new opportunities for people, support businesses and create jobs.

It was the plans for the recovery of #Bulgaria and #Romania and the possibilities for economic development in the border regions that we discussed with a delegation of deputies, municipal councilors and activists from our northern neighbor at a conference in #Ruse, organized by #PES.

I would especially like to thank the hosts – the leader of the list of the #BSP in Ruse Krum Zarkov for the initiative, the mayor of Ruse – Pencho Milkov, the municipal councilor and rector of Ruse University – Academician Hristo Beloev, the chairman of the Delegation of Bulgarian Socialists in the EP – Petar Vitanov / Petar Vitanov, the regional governor of Ruse – Borislav Bulgarinov, as well as the guests from Romania – the MEP Victor Negrescu, the chairman of the Commission for European Affairs in the Romanian Parliament Stefan Musoiu and the MP Marian Mina.

Both Bulgaria and Romania are facing a severe health situation and serious political dynamics at the same time. Elections are coming up in our country, and in our northern neighbor the uncertainty about the next composition of the government continues. This has invariably affected the drafting of recovery plans – the Romanian one was passed this week and the Bulgarian one was recently handed over by the caretaker government.

The regular cabinet of GERB missed the opportunity to develop a more ambitious vision and present projects in coordination with our neighboring countries. I am pleased, however, that the plan delivered by the caretaker government includes several strong cross-border projects. A strong political will is necessary for their implementation, and I see such at the local level in the person of Pencho Milkov and the local organization of the BSP Ruse. For years, the city was underfunded, and painfully familiar problems were ignored. Several initiatives are now being worked hard in parallel – improving air quality, easing cross-border traffic and raising living standards. I hope that the next regular government will provide the necessary assistance to realize all of them.
