European Union (EU) interior ministers expressed solidarity with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland in a video conference on Wednesday and condemned Belarus for organizing the flow of illegal immigrants to neighboring countries.
“We condemn Belarus’ attempts to use the people as a tool to achieve political goals,” said Slovenian Interior Minister Ales Hoyes, who chaired the meeting as a representative of the current EU presidency.
He added that ministers had agreed to provide expert and technical support to Member States affected by Minsk’s policy.
“Given the rapidly changing situation, Lithuania, as well as Latvia and Poland, need additional assistance,” Hoyss said. “We agreed to send additional experts to these Member States and [ES Robežapsardzības] agency teams, as well as the necessary technical equipment to increase [patvēruma pieprasītāju] call on the European Commission to provide additional financial assistance and, most importantly, to strengthen controls at the EU’s external borders. “
