The EU is negotiating with Russia to allow food imports – 2024-09-14 05:40:53

/ world today news/ The European Commission is negotiating with Russia to restore food imports from the EU.

As the EC has agreed to allow Russia to choose which EU members can be removed from Moscow’s “blacklist” for food imports, Euobserver writes. The agreement was reached last week in Berlin between the EC representative for health and food safety, Ladislav Miko, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Dankvert, head of Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision. The publication states that Miko sent a letter to Dankwert on January 16 regarding the mechanism for lifting the Russian ban on food imports. “In order to return to the situation before the ban, our understanding is that trade can be restored on the basis of European veterinary certificates and inspections by the importer (Russia – note ed.),” the letter states.

According to Euobserver, the list includes delicacies, selected dairy and meat products, traditional products, niche products, etc.

EU farmers and exporters have lost hundreds of millions of euros since Russia imposed a ban on EU food imports last August in response to Western economic sanctions.
