The Council of the EU announced today that it has decided to add 11 more countries to the list of permits to travel from abroad on minor occasions.
Added are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei, Canada, Jordan, Montenegro, Qatar, Kosovo, Moldova and Saudi Arabia. The list previously included Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Rwanda, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.
A statement on today’s decision states that EU countries must not remove travel restrictions from countries that are not on the list.
According to the Council of the EU, such a step should be taken only after coordination at European level.
The EU Council previously recommended that non-essential travel be allowed for foreigners vaccinated with an EU or WHO-approved product whose immunization has been at least 14 days old. EU countries reserve the right to abruptly renew restrictions if necessary.
The EU Council has not set the conditions for crossing borders. Each EU country has the right to decide what measures to impose on arriving foreigners, including recognition of vaccination status, test data or quarantine.
