AT the high representative for foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borel, condemned today the incident with the attack on Hristiyan Pendikov in Ohrid.
“Recently, we have witnessed an escalation of tension between North Macedonia and Bulgaria with unacceptable incidents and provocations,” said the European diplomat.
During today’s joint briefing after the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Buyar Osmani, Borel expressed confidence that those responsible for the incident will be brought to justice.

“I am convinced by your government’s statements that those responsible will be brought to justice. But at the same time we are hearing unacceptable statements made by some nationalist politicians who incite hatred and insinuate violence. This can only lead to more further escalation of tensions and is not conducive to an atmosphere conducive to good neighborliness and good relations,” the EU foreign policy chief said.
“I categorically condemn any incitement to violence. Working together to promote an atmosphere of dialogue and mutual respect is crucial because this is the European way. This is the foundation on which the European Union is built,” Borrell said.

He emphasized that at a time when the foundations of Europe are threatened by an aggressor aiming to destabilize the continent and redefine its security architecture, the importance of peace and good neighborliness must be emphasized.
