Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that her country has imposed the strictest restrictions on arms exports to Israel among its allies. IS reports that he said this during his speech in the Senate of the Italian Parliament on the eve of the EU summit on October 17-18.
According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, after Israel began its operations in the Gaza Strip, the Italian government suspended all new licenses for the export of military products to the Jewish state.
“Therefore, all contracts signed after October 7 have not been fulfilled. All export permits issued till October 7 were checked separately,” the politician said.
The Prime Minister noted that his country’s position of suspending all new export licenses is stricter and more restrictive than that of Britain, Germany and France:
“Italian partners continue to evaluate new licenses on a case-by-case basis”.
Meloni also said that Rome is evaluating old licenses and taking action where there is a risk that this weapon material could be used in the current crisis.
