Only the winners set the conditions, said European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell
“Russia’s demands for security guarantees and an end to EU and NATO enlargement to the east are a purely Russian agenda with completely unacceptable conditions, especially for Ukraine,” EU foreign policy chief Josep told Die Welt. Borel, quoted by BGNES.
“Russia is presenting its demands in writing for the first time – something that has never happened before. Only the winners do that: they say – these are my conditions,” Borel said.
In mid-December, the Russian Foreign Ministry published drafts of the agreement with the United States and the agreement with NATO. The documents have already been handed over to Washington and his allies. In one of the clauses, Moscow proposed that NATO countries provide Russia with guarantees that would prevent further expansion to the east, in particular to Ukrainian territory.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that NATO expansion to the east and the deployment of weapons in Ukraine are red lines for Moscow.
