EU ambassadors at a meeting on Wednesday failed to agree on the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which was planned to be introduced by the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
This was announced by the editor of Radio Liberty in Europe, Rikard Jozwiak, on his Twitter, writes “European Truth”.
“EU ambassadors have not reached an agreement on the tenth package of sanctions against Russia. Negotiations will continue tomorrow, anxiously approaching the deadline of February 24,” he wrote.
Jozwiak also said that Hungary, which demanded the exclusion of four persons from the sanctions list, retreated.
However, due to the resistance of Hungary, the EU ambassadors failed to agree on an extension of anti-Russian sanctions for 9 or 12 months instead of the current six.
EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed confidence this week that the tenth round of sanctions against Russia will be adopted by the anniversary full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
We will remind, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on February 15 submitted a formal proposal on the tenth package of sanctions against Russia.
